Anita Sarkeesian Appears on Colbert Report

It is no secret that Anita Sarkeesian of the Feminist Frequency fully supported Suey Park's #CancelColbert, an online twitter campaign to force Comedy Central into dropping the show for "Racist" remarks against Asians.  A remark which in itself was a parody of Daniel Snyder and his efforts to ease the backlash against the name Redskins.  For a full report click HERE to read it from KnowYourMeme.

So naturally it came as a surprise to many that Anita Sarkeesian, a former proponent of #CancelColbert would appear as a guest on his show to discuss GamerGate.  Some, including Thunderf00t were almost salivating over what they expected Steven Colbert to do to Anita Sarkeesian.  Others, including myself were predicting that if any challenge to Anita's views it would be in the form of softball questions.  However, the end result is primarily an anti-gamergate segment.

Anita Sarkeesian and the Irrational Fear of Guns

Anita Sarkeesian received another death threat this time aimed at Utah State University where she was scheduled to speak.  The threat promised a mass shooting if she was allowed to speak.

Below is a copy of the email received

Anita then took to twitter lashing out at the University for their honoring the state's gun laws.

Harassment is part of the Internet

This is a response and refutation to the article posted by S. E. Smith of the DailyDot and the Kernal.  The same opinion piece was posted to both sites but here is the link to the Kernal and I would encourage you to read it first and come back here.  The page will open in a new tab.  I could not disagree more with the premise of the opinion piece.  My biggest problem with the article is that it portrays women as helpless victims who are at the mercy of the worst parts of the internet.

To be a woman, or someone perceived as such, online is to be considered fair game for virulent misogyny that includes being sent graphic images (some very creatively photoshopped), violent speech, and personally identifying information that serves as a reminder that your stalkers are only a few steps aware.
